Cosmo

Occupation: Pleasure horse

Diagnosed: Soft tissue injury in his left hip, beginning stages of EPM. Testing never completed.

Human Companion: Jennifer

May 15, 2009: Cosmo was diagnosed with a severe joint injury which was thought to be incurable.  Cosmo was placed in Lisa’s care and on her program mid May, 2009.

June 22, 2009: I wanted to give you an update on Cosmo.  This is tough…I do have faith and have every hope that he will be better than ever.  He is very stiff and having a hard time moving around.  He is still eating very well but he is moving around like an 90 year old man…it is very hard to see.

Please let me know what you think and if I should do anything else other than his usual daily recipe.  I hope all is well with you.

Thank you!  Jennifer

Response from Lisa St.John:

Hi Jennifer,

Ted went through those days as well.   An actual Healing  process is much different than symptom control.  This is a good sign..shows what we are doing is working!  Once he get’s through this healing crisis he will be moving better than before.  During the joint cleanse, the fungus which caused the  injury to the weakened joint,  is being pulled  out into the lymph nodes by the white blood cells …causing the stiffness.  He needs to walk so this clearing can take place.  Make sure he is let out daily and not left in his stall all day. The walking will increase blood flow allowing the toxins to pass through and leave his system.

Let’s give him another liver cleanse to help him clear, we should also schedule a treatment to help him through this as well.

Please be strong..I promise you he will be better than before, he is almost there..

Hugs,

Lisa St.John

Hi Lisa,

Just wanted to share with you the Cosmo update.  Last night was the first time I had the opportunity to ride (small amount trot/mostly at walk) Cosmo and he moved very nicely (Suzanne noticed a bit stiff in the hind at trot).  I had a wonderful time and am so happy that he is feeling much better (he was wearing barefoot boots in front).  After our ride the large turnout in the horse park was available so I decided to let him kick up his heels a bit if wanted to.  Well…he had so much energy and spunk!

He trotted and cantered around squealing and then…did the most fluid flying lead change…almost made me cry!  He looks wonderful and now feels wonderful!  I think any remaining stiffness or foot soreness is on it’s way out and now that he can move better that should help!

Anyway, just wanted to share the good news with you :)   I will be out there tomorrow, Friday, and over the weekend working and playing with him.  He is ready to move…love it!  Many thanks to you and Suzanne for caring for Cosmo.  Suzanne is kind enough to help me with his care when I am gone and agreed to help me work on the trailer loading this weekend.  I really want to take him out to explore some trails soon!

Thank you,

Jennifer

Hi Lisa

Cosmo and I had the very best lesson ever yesterday!  He is totally sound, building muscle, and moving so nicely…thank you so much for helping us!

Cosmo was “diagnosed” with a couple of things…soft tissue injury in his left hip and then unconfirmed (complete testing not done) neurological issue possible EPSM (EPM was ruled out with test) and low vitamin E test result.
Through the years he has shown weakness in his hind end and occasional stumbling (almost like when someone bumps the back of your knee). He had a very hard time picking himself up after a roll and was very unsteady at trot.

Now he is much stronger and steadier at trot. Gets up from a roll much easier and stumbling has disappeared. We are able to take lessons again and he is moving so freely…a pleasure to ride!!!

Thanks so much for helping us and I look forward to his herbs coming when you ship out next.

Oh and he thoroughly enjoys his bucket of goodies!!!

Jennifer
